Locating the power steering fluid reservoir in a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu can be tricky. Follow these steps to find it quickly and safely.
Where to Look
Open the hood and secure it. Stand on the driver’s side (left). Focus on the rear-left corner near the firewall. The reservoir is typically low-mounted behind the engine compartment, slightly hidden.
Identifying Features
- Shape & Size: Small (≈2" wide × 4" tall) opaque or translucent plastic container.
- Cap: Black plastic screw-top lid, often labeled with a steering wheel icon or "PS".
- Hose: Connects from the reservoir bottom to the power steering pump.
Verification Tips
Check for:

- Yellow "Caution" or "Power Steering Fluid" markings.
- Dual brake lines below the reservoir. Do not confuse it with the brake fluid reservoir.
If visibility is poor, trace the fluid line from the power steering pump (driver’s side front) backward.
Critical Notes
Use Dexron III or VI fluid only – incorrect fluid damages seals. Check levels cold on a flat surface; fluid should be between "MIN/MAX" marks. Replace the cap securely to prevent contamination.
